Every organization begins with a reason to exist. For DESDAI Women’s Hope, that reason is simple: we believe women and communities deserve the opportunity, support, and resources to build stronger futures for themselves and their families.
DESDAI Women’s Hope was founded with a vision of creating lasting change by working alongside women, girls, families, and communities that face barriers to opportunity and economic security.
Our journey is beginning, but the challenges we are responding to are not new.
Across communities in northern Uganda, women often carry enormous responsibilities for their households while facing limited access to income-generating opportunities, financial services, leadership spaces, education, and decision-making.
We believe that sustainable development starts by listening to communities and recognizing their existing strengths.
Starting With Women
Women are at the heart of many families and communities. When women have opportunities to earn, save, lead, and participate in decisions, the benefits can extend far beyond one individual.
That is why DESDAI Women’s Hope places women and girls at the center of our work.
We want to support women to develop practical skills, strengthen their livelihoods, access savings and financial opportunities, understand their rights, and participate meaningfully in community decisions.
Working With Communities, Not Just For Communities
One of the principles that guides DESDAI Women’s Hope is the belief that communities should not simply receive projects—they should help shape them.
Before designing solutions, we want to listen.
What are women experiencing?
What opportunities already exist?
What challenges prevent families from becoming more financially secure?
What do young people hope to achieve?
What can local leaders, women’s groups, and community members do together?
These questions will continue to shape our programs.

As a young organization, we know that trust must be earned.
From the beginning, we are committed to responsible management, transparent decision-making, careful use of resources, and accountability to the communities and partners we serve.
We want our supporters to know not only what we do, but also how we do it.
